A long-­‐time affiliate of the SEL (Sensory Ethnography Lab) at Harvard University, Jeff was heavily involved in developing the curriculum and methodology of the program at  its  inception  while  a teaching fellow aside founder and director Lucien Castaing-­‐Taylor.

Jeff Silva is an artist, filmmaker, teacher and film programmer from Boston. Jeff works across medias, genres, and forms but his work shares a close kinship with traditions of experimental film and new modes of ethnographic documentary, exploring the quotidian and geographic aspects of his subjects lives, often over long spans of time. His work is often  focused  on  themes  of  displacement  and fragility, humanistically documenting populations, individuals, systems and ecologies at risk. His most recently completed projects include Linefork (2017), Ivan & Ivana (2011), and Balkan Rhapsodies: 78 Measures of War (2008) have been exhibited at festivals, and museums internationally, including: MoMA's Documentary Fortnight, The Viennale, BAFICI, Visions du Réel, Valdivia, and Flahertiana. A long-­‐time affiliate of  the SEL  (Sensory Ethnography  Lab) at Harvard  University, Jeff  was heavily involved in developing the curriculum and methodology of the program at  its  inception  while  a teaching fellow aside founder and director Lucien Castaing-­‐Taylor. Jeff has also been programming documentary and experimental cinema for nearly two decades. In 2000, he co-­‐founded BALAGAN, an the offbeat and alternative micro-­‐cinema screening series in Boston that continues to present marginalized films to the community.

Projet de recherche au CNE dans le cadre de LabexMed :

The mission of Jeff Daniel Silva is to allow the development of a long term ethnographic documentary project in partnership with the Centre Norbert Elias at La fabrique des écritures innovantes en sciences sociales. Silva is particularly concerned with migration issues and urban development and displacement around the Mediterranean and will use  the  residence to do scouting and fieldwork and to develop contacts with researchers working in these areas.
